Dr. Hort Bio
Greg Charles has taught horticulture classes since 1976, after his graduation from the University of Florida. Up until 2009, he was the department Chair for the horticulture programs at Pinellas Technical Education Centers in St. Petersburg where he was heavily involved with industry associations. He has won numerous awards for his teaching and participation with city, county and state agencies promoting sound horticultural practices. An accident in March 2009 forced him to retire, but not for long. After an intense road to recovery he has bounded back using his nickname “Dr. Hort” answering gardeners' questions in the Home Link section of the Saturday St. Petersburg Times. In addition to returning to part-time teaching, he also hosts workshops at Sunken Gardens and other venues. Helping to keep Florida beautiful as a horticultural consultant, just look for the fella in wild hospital scrubs preaching the praises of Florida Friendly Landscaping. |
